Waltercio Caldas
Waltercio Caldas (b. 1946) is a Brazilian artist living and working in Rio de Janeiro. His work is related to Neo-Concretism, a movement that first evolved in Rio in the 1960s with the work of Lygia Clark and Hélio Oiticica, and which takes a “multi-sensorial” approach to the art object.
Caldas’ work in books, sculpture, installation and drawings is eclectic in choice of materials, often art historical in its base of inquiry, and intellectual and sensual in tone. He represented Brazil at the Venice Biennale in 1997, and Brazil at the 1996 São Paulo Bienal. Caldas has exhibited widely in his native Brazil, including at the Museu Nactional de Belas Artes, and the Centro Cultural da Light, in Rio, the Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia, in Salvador, and Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo. His work has been shown at the Quintana Gallery, Miami, the Galeria Javier López, Madrid, the Centre d'Art Contemporain, Geneva, among other international venues.
