Andy Warhol Foundation Gift
The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts has designated the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum as a recipient of a substantial gift from its Photographic Legacy Program. USFCAM will receive a curated selection of approximately 100 original Polaroid photographs and 50 gelatin silver prints produced by Andy Warhol between 1970 and 1987. These images often served as the basis for the artist’s portraits, silk-screen paintings, drawings and prints. This gift will offer a significant opportunity for our scholars and students to access Warhol’s work in a direct way.
New Public Art Commission
Michele Oka Doner has recently completed a new public art commission titled Epiphytes: Absorbing From Nature, located in the USF Sarasota-Manatee Rotunda. The artist says "…patterns of fossilized shell that characterize the geologic substructure of Sarasota itself combine in this work to create an enchanted field guide for generations of students…"
Museum Studies Graduate Certificate
The USF Institute for Research in Art is now offering a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies. This interdisciplinary program draws on the expertise of scholars from various departments across USF including Art History, Anthropology, Communication, Public Administration and the School of Library and Information Sciences.
USF Public Art - Top 10 in US
The USF Public Art Program was selected as one of the nations top ten university based public art programs. The top ten list was published in the spring issue of Public Art Review, an
internationally distributed magazine. The top ten list was produced by the Public Art Network, a national organization of public art professionals associated with American for the Arts.
